We all have a unique background, a combination of nature and nurture that makes us who we are today. And, more likely than not, we all have some form of clutter! Even someone with a spotless house may have a messy desk at work, or a cluttered car, or a computer desktop full of files.
Sometimes you may wonder, “So? What’s the big deal if I have clutter? Who cares?!”
The important thing to realize is that clutter has an effect on your energy. As stuff accumulates it can literally and symbolically weigh you down, making you feel heavy, anxious, or claustrophobic. Accumulated stuff from your past may block new opportunities and keep you in patterns that no longer serve you.
Imagine that there is a tiny thread of your energy connecting you to every object in a room. The more threads, the more tied down and stuck you will feel! Clutter truly impacts your energy, as well as the energy of your space.
But don’t take it personally! Having clutter and stagnant energy does not mean you are a failure or that all hope is lost. There are many reasons why we may have clutter in various areas of our lives. Do any of these resonate with you?
- Sentimentality
- Overwhelm
- Too much information!
- Lack of systems/inappropriate systems
- Distractibility/lack of time awareness
- Indecision/paralysis
- Raised that way/lack of skills
- Constant travel
- Perfectionism
