Do you wonder what to do with the space above the fridge, at the tippy top of your closet or other difficult to reach spaces?

We have two suggestions for using hard to reach space to your advantage:

1. Keep items that you have identified as “secondary storage” items in this space. These are items that are only used occasionally.

It is almost a tradition among parents to keep liquor above the fridge, but items such as flower vases and extra nutritional supplements are also good choices (see above.)

One of my clients used her above the fridge space for extras of aluminum foil, sandwich bags, etc. She also has a seldom used pitcher and some party goods tucked away up there (see below.)

The key, of course, is to remember what you put up there!

You might temporarily put a large super sticky note on the cabinet until your brain gets used to the idea of what is stored in the space.  When guests come, simply move the super sticky to the inside of the cabinet.

2. Keep a step stool close by for use in reaching high shelves and cupboards.  Once you begin looking, you will find step stools everywhere you go, and in great variety, from the $6 folding stool at your local drugstore or hardware store to the upscale Core Studio 3 Step Slimline Ladder at amazon.com.
