Do you dread doing your taxes?
Several years ago I decided to follow my advice to others about using a timer to help with procrastination and was shocked to find how little time it actually took to total our medical expenses!
Using a simple Excel template, I sat down and typed up the data from our medical receipts. These had all been saved in a folder labeled Medical throughout the year.
I called our pharmacy to confirm that I could get a summary of our prescriptions with a total for the entire year, and so eliminated that entire bit of typing.
It took me less than 45 minutes to do the task of typing the medical visit receipts and make the call to the pharmacy. I had anticipated at least an hour.
So, my two tax time tips are:
1. Break the dreaded taxes down into a few small manageable tasks and bust the procrastination blues!
2. Use a timer to see how long each task takes or to make a limited time commitment (i.e. I will do this work for 1 hour then go for a walk and finish it later)
