Do you look at a large overwhelming task such as a basement or garage and simply turn around and walk away? Many of my clients and students report having this exact experience!

One of my clients Linda, was faced with a project that made her feel overwhelmed when she began. As we worked together virtually, both individually and in a group course, Linda learned to look at her large, overwhelming project and break it down into manageable action steps.

The transformation was impressive and it was a team effort.  If you don’t believe me, take a gander at the pictures of her basement transformation above. 🙂

The history

The basement had been a storage space for many years.  The kids had moved away, but much evidence of their time in the home still lingered.  And in a effort to keep the main parts of the home clutter-free, things were often taken downstairs “to be gone through later.”

Perhaps you have a space in your home that has suffered a similar fate?

The turning point

Quarantine and a need for a home gym gave Linda and her husband the energy and enthusiasm to transform their storage space into a rather impressive home gym. 🙂

The transformation

Don’t think that this was easy or that it happened overnight.  Linda spent many, many hours sorting through the stuff from the basement, box by box.  The other students in the group course she was a member of cheered her on and celebrated with her every step of the way.

Linda’s “secret sauce”

You have special gift (maybe more than one) that you can use to address your decluttering and organizing challenges. I call this your “secret sauce.”

The basement project was also made more do-able because Linda is a student and teacher of Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC.)  She used the techniques that she learned in MSC to offer compassion to  herself as she struggled to release objects that represented her past.

And Linda graciously shared the mindful self-compassion tools with the other students in the group course. It was a win-win-win!

Bonus! She found a few treasures and gave them a place of honor in her home.
