I can say that this use of organizing tools was brilliant because I didn’t do it! These feats of organizing were brought to you by Shala Graham, founder of Creative Colony co-working space in Silver Spring. I am constantly asking Shala where she got this or that as she is a master at finding creative solutions to challenges large and small (not just in organizing!).
Shelf Stretchers
I love the way Shala arranged these silver shelf extenders (available for only $15 on Amazon
!). Instead of putting them in a row, she made them into a clever shape that supports different kitchen accessories:
I have used a few of these shelf stretchers in my home as well. I have ordered three sets of the silver shelves and used them in much more mundane, but no less satisfying, ways in my home:
Shelf Spacing
Below Shala has done many clever things: first, she uses the white wire shelving extender to maximize the use of the lower shelf to double the number of coffee mugs that can be stored there. Secondly, the space to the right of the shelf extender is also being used effectively. But the trick that might be less noticeable to the untrained eye is the way that Shala spaced the shelves themselves. Notice that the bottom shelf is much taller than the two top shelves?
This is something that I have done in my kitchen at home as well. In fact, I added a shelf in one of the cabinets in our kitchen to accommodate an entire extra shelf of coffee mugs and small glasses.
