Remember when you were in kindergarten and there was a book corner and an arts and crafts station? Life was so simple in kindergarten! Everyone in the class knew where to put things as there were labels and logical groupings.

You can create ease and flow in your home with a similar approach: create stations or zones for groups of objects to make it easy to find things when you need them. Most of us do this intuitively in some ares of our homes. You might have a sock drawer or an art supply cabinet, for example.

Applying the basic organizing principle of keeping “like with like” keeps things simple and can be applied in creative ways. Organizing according to function can help you save time when performing common activities.  My client Susan loves to bake, so having a baking cabinet and a baking drawer makes sense in her kitchen.

Notice where you have created logical groupings in your home or office and think creatively about other logical (or illogical!) groupings that make sense to you. It doesn’t matter what others think! Maybe you keep unopened mail by the bathtub so you can take a foot bath while you read it. As long as it the groupings make sense to you, they are perfect.

Have you created “stations” in your home or office? Please share your creative or unusual organizing successes in the comments!
