Many of us are looking forward to traveling this year after being cooped up due to the pandemic.
I just got back from traveling to visit friends and family in North Carolina.
It is a gift to be able to travel, to see new people and places as well as familiar ones. However, it can be stressful! It requires advanced planning to ensure that we have what we need in our suitcases and that our homes will be cared for so we can relax while away. Here are some ways to do just that:
Products to keep plants and pets fed when travelling
It can be helpful to think ahead and utilize appropriate tools and strategies to see that your home, pets and plants are safe while you are away. One product that I use throughout the year, but that comes in particularly handy while I am away, is a Plant Nanny (pictured above). You recycle a water bottle, soda bottle or wine bottle to slowly deliver just enough water to the plant via the plant nanny.
Of course if you leave a pet at home, you will want to have a friend or a professional come in to check on them regularly, but for in between visits, consider the Petmate Mason Replenish Feeder, available at Amazon. For more on important things to consider when you have pets, click here.
Packing Tips
My organizer Peggy and I both prefer to pack well in advance of our trips whenever possible in order to reduce last minute stress. Peggy is the queen of traveling light and smart packing. Below are photos of her efficient travel packing for a trip we took together last year.
It is possible to create significantly more space in your luggage by using packing cubes or, if you are on a budget, different sizes of ziploc bags. Additionally, this makes it easy to keep your luggage organized and to quickly grab what you need from your suitcase while on the go.
All of the items pictured in the bottom photo are stored in the packing cube pictured at the top. Undergarments are contained in the ziploc bag.
All of these garments are chosen carefully. They are made of lightweight fabrics that do not wrinkle. Peggy chose mostly solid colors to allow for flexibility in using each item of clothing for multiple events.
Consider choosing just one or two “highlight” colors in addition to neutral colors when you pack. This will ensure that all your clothes play well together, and will cut back on the stress of deciding what to wear!
Another option is to eliminate packing and traveling stress entirely by taking a vacation at home!
