I learn so much from my clients. It really is a two way street & a very collaborative process.

I’d like to share something that my wonderful client Sheila Johns calls “catching up with my own reality.”

What do Sheila and I mean by that?

Do you believe that you should be able to do all the things that you used to do along with all of the new things you are doing now? Do you beat up on yourself when you are not as productive as you used to be or don’t accomplish everything that you want to?

Do you beat up on yourself when you are not as productive as you used to be or don’t accomplish everything that you want to? If so, it is time to shift your thinking NOW!

Your life may have changed in very significant ways such as:

  • A new position or more responsibilities at work
  • Having a child
  • A change in realtionship status
  • A change in your health
  • You may now be caring for a parent or other aging person

Sometimes things in your reality may change not by choice.

You may experience physical changes that require your attention or circumstances in your family may change.

There are many times our reality is changed due to conscious or unconscious choices related to a shift in what you value.

Most often these are very valid choices: your values may have changed over time and you may now assign more value to spending time with friends and family or contributing to your community or other causes that you care about.

If you are now devoting time and attention to other things that you value you may find that some of the day to day or work related projects or other things you seemed to do effortlessly in the past now require focus, attention & commitment.

I was speaking with a friend recently and she was wondering why she used to be able to keep all of her files in order without much conscious effort. I pointed out to her that she has a five-year-old child, she just started a new professional practice and that in catching up with her current reality she might consider:

1. Cutting herself some slack

2. Hiring someone to assist her with the bookkeeping aspects of her business.

There are many many many examples of this and I find that I need to be very conscious of it myself.

I might engage in in developing a new workshop, improving a teleseminar series, writing a new e-book, taking on leadership roles in multiple groups and then I wonder why I don’t keep up with my blog posts!

I invite you to reflect for a moment on one or two ways in which you may have not quite caught up to your current reality.
